The Business of Being Green

It’s not easy being green” – Kermit the Frog

City of Fairfield 2019 Green Business Award

We’re not just lovers of food and wine! We’re also lovers of the earth. We’re admirers of Mother Nature. We are appreciative of how the earth provides us with air, food, and beauty. To show our appreciation we do what we can do be green! Not only do we use eco-friendly materials to package our delicious goods, we also do our best to make sure it reaches you in the same way.

Have you ordered from our online store before? Really?! *Blushing* Thank you! You probably noticed then, the packing material our yummy goodies were nestled into.

At first glance you might think, “Packing peanuts?! No! Styrofoam is NOT green! Why would our Northern Californian, wine country pals use such an unfriendly-to-the-environment item??” Well, you’d be right in your opinion on styrofoam but, guess what? It’s not styrofoam! The material we use is actually a product called Renature® which is a 100% compostable, starch-based product! You can dispose of it as you would any other compostable item OR add water to it and watch it dissolve! It’s also dust-free so go ahead and take a full, deep breath as you open your tasty delivery!

While we don’t take these earth-friendly steps for any reason other than our desire to pass along the healthiest environment possible to future generations of food lovers, this year Sonoma Harvest and our parent company, The Olive Oil Factory, were announced as the recipients of the City of Fairfield’s 2019 Green Business award! This award recognizes company’s and businesses that implement successful waste reduction and showcase the three R’s: Reduce, reuse, recycle. We are honored to be in the company of all the great businesses that have also received this award.

We are so honored to accept this award. We’re looking forward to the years ahead where we will be given the opportunity to find more ways to cut down on waste, encourage the love of our environment, and share with you the amazing fruits of Mother Nature! We’d love to hear ways you love being green too! Share with us in the comments your favorite tips and tricks to keeping our earth beautiful!
